Cisco TX - Cisco is located in the heart of Texas Big Country. It is located 45 miles east of Abilene and 105 miles west of Fort Worth at the junction of Highway 183 and Highway 20.
Cisco was founded in 1881 with the entry of the Texas Pacific (T&P) Railroad. The city is named after New York banker John Jay Sisco who arranged financing for the railroad. Cisco is home to the first hotel acquired by Conrad Hilton in 1919.
The town has a beautiful lake to the north and is surrounded by a farm and farmland. The bustling trade caters to residents, visitors, and travelers.
The largest concrete swimming pool in the world
Cisco in its early days was suffering from a lack of water supply. In the 1920s, the Williamson Dam was built north of the city, creating Lake Sisco. The dam is named after James Milton Williamson, longtime mayor and survivor of the 1893 hurricane. At its base was built what has been described as the world's largest concrete swimming pool.
The complex includes a two-storey building with an ice rink on the top floor, a zoo, an amusement park with rides and a garden. Bob Wells was just one of the celebrities who entertained there. For decades, it has been a major attraction for people from miles around. The Hollow Dam was at one time open to the public, but this is no longer the case. The pool closed in the 1970s and the vacant rink burned down a few years later
