Sundown was the first residential rehabilitation and recovery program (one further long-term and two short-term residential harbors followed) that fostered a cohesive, family-centered community feel. This has provided our child with a safe place and trusted people who need to "really connect". "This was the first program I really called and I felt they cared about me." When I picked up our baby, they had grown so much in their ability to identify feelings and triggers and the role they had played in their darker times over the past three years. They wanted to mend, attend meetings, remain sober, and live a life unmotivated by anxiety.
They understand themselves better as part of the family and society, and have a better idea of why parents have rules. Like any other teen, he doesn't like us rules, but now they understand why they are respected and enforced. (Yes!! The status quo isn't always true, but you must first understand societal norms in order to change those you don't agree with.) They've also learned, and they're learning to integrate, we can't control it and we can't control it. Responsible for the actions or feelings of others. We can only care about our own actions and feelings, strive to do the right things, own our choices, and apologize and compensate when we fail.

A picky eater, but love the food (except for fish, but at least they tried it).
They loved the routine (well, the school part wasn't a favorite, but it never was). Mostly, they liked the staff and advisors.
Fast forward a month after returning home. They have 90 day coins. They made it through their first 30 day home contract, even with idle time waiting to start their after school care program and online school. They get their phone back and find out that they've been missing a love interest for three months, and they've moved on. It's a really rough day, but they're still coping.
